Nat with his Stealth / Bleed deck ran rampant at this weekends VTES event. The first two rounds he breezed through beating off two other like minded decks and an Intercept / Killer deck. However round 3 went radically different and he was the first out in a round that saw the Intercept / Killer deck knock off all of ther players to claim all the victory points for that round. However Nat had secured enough points in the early rounds to win the first constructed deck tournament at BFB.

Our first VTES Tournament is scheduled for July 18th with an 11 AM kick off. We expect to have between 8 and 12 players, hopefully 12, and we’ll be aim to be using the full tournament system with 3 rounds and then a final, using the official tournament scoring system. The tournament will use sealed decks from the Ebony Legacies of Blood expansion.

Players may use the same deck for the tournament or purchase new decks for each round or exchange complete decks with other players between rounds, if they wish to get some variety in the style of deck they play.

Participation prizes will be given to all players, as well as special prizes for the tournament winner and all finalists . These will include promotional cards, special boosters and starter  decks.

Entry fee is just the cost of the Starter Deck, no other costs.

Munchkin Tournament

Our first store tournament will be kicking off in light hearted back stabbing fashion with Munchkin from SJG. Munchkin is a very simple game to learn, very simple to play…and requires great amounts of alliance making and backstabbing. The tournament structure will depend on how many players we get but the target is 12 to 15 with three initial rounds of 4 or 5 players per table.

.

The date : May 30th, the time 11 AM, and the location, Battlefield Bangkok!

.

The winner of each table and the best runner(s)  up will go into a final (with full allowance to riducle the players they beat) before fighting it out in a final match. The winner taking full honors of “Munchkin Champion of South East Asia… or At Least South East Bangkok!” and their choice of any Munchkin Card game starter pack, the dice set or two add on packs.

.

The cost to join…nothing, nada, not a penny, no experience points…or baht either.  All we ask is that you turn up on time, play (reasonably) fair , don’t cry if you loose, and drink lots of coffee and tea!

Rules :

  • Standard Munchkin rules
  • First player player to level 10 wins
  • You can not buy level 10
  • No cheating (sorry no stealing card, levels or swapping cards when someone goes for a coffee)
  • Bookmarks , Official T-Shirts, beer mats and Munchkin Silver coins etc are all allowed and must be declared before a game starts
  • In the event of a draw for best runner up then the tie break will be decided by the tied players running around the car park shouting “Booga Booga I am the greatest!” or like minded comments. Until the eliminated players have had a enough of a laugh and then they’ll vote on the tie.
  • The final will use the same rules, though eliminated players will be allowed to hiss and boo at the finalists should they like.

If  you’ve never played Munchkin…doesn’t matter the last three games we have had have all been won by people who never played before, must be some kind of “be nice to the new guy” thing!!!!

First the key fact, played 3 lost 3, 1 on caster kill (Vlad A) , 2 on army kill (Shae / Vlad B).  Two of the games were close, the third was a massacre, in games one and three I popped Rhyas Feat…and then moved on to the next model, forgetting to advance her, never mind attack with her, which in Hordes is devestating as all my beasts ended up horribly over extended and then dead. In the one game I did get it right I cleaned up quiet merrily and ended Invisble. Worked great. Battle group wise, Archers just sucked , I needed melee fighters with Rhyas not archers, Harriers did okay both as solo killers and getting in the way. Seraph rarely did well and was nailed fast, and as I didn’t face a Hordes faction the Forsaken was just a side show model that did nothing apart from die, okay first game he killed a couple of pirates.

,

As I’ve never used or fought against Vlad before it was a shock to face him and the never changing “Blood of Kings” , “Signs and Portents” and assign one focus offensive.  Makes the eVlad “hand of fate” spell look pretty weak in comparison… oh and seeing the Behemoth run 16 inches across the board and then fire was bloody scarey!!! Note to self : Buy Vlad before going home!

.

Tournament winners were Skorne (Zaal) beating Cryx (Deneghra) in the final.  I came a solid last! No regrets though it was great fun and well over 200 people showed up at the Con playing all kinds of games as well as DnD 4e that just launched on the 7th. Next tournie is tentaively planned for November.
