Wednesday Night Battles

Author: Games Master
08 21st, 2008

Just two battles this past Wednesday, both going all the way to victory points. First on the field of battle were the Trolls (under Angus and Kobby) and Legion (Under Vayl and Chris) in a 750  Rage,  Rivets and Solos event. The battle was a tit for tats skirmish through to the last 2 turns when the heat got turned up. Everblight looked to have it sewn up on their Turn 6 but the Trolls took out a Carnie and went 2 Points ahead.  Needed 3 VPs for a win Vayl sent a warbeast after the nearest FellCaller, ripped him up in one bite, then HoarFrost to take out the Feralgeist and it was all square. The only enemy model in range now was the last FellCaller, engaged by a Druid. The Druid had attacked and missed earlier, it was all up to Vayl, she moved closer, cast Malice, boosted…missed,  rolled to hit the Druid.. hit…and oops killed him. Victory to Trolls 10 VP to 9 VP.

.

The second battle saw a 500 point Caine (Kris) and Cygnar take on Kruegar (Kobby)  and the Circle, Thing started well for Cygnar, mashing the Cicle Cavalry from long range, but then Kruegar popped his feat and it was a bloody bath of fried flesh as long gunners and arcane mages spent the next 2 turns getting zapped as they tried to keep up the fire on the advancing Circle.  Caine’s feat could have done better but even he was struggling to hit the Defense 18 and 19 Druids. As the battle progressed it became a mop up operation for the Druids, a potential caster kill from a charging Cygnar Knight came to nothing when he missed and while Caine continued to take pot shots at Kruegar he never did enough to really threaten him. Last turn Caine went all out left himself open for the kill, but then Kruegar blew his attack and it was all over. VPs were not counted as Caine and Doc were the only Cygnarmodels left on the table, compared to rather a lot of Druids.

It’s Friendly Week…

Author: Games Master
08 6th, 2008

A bunch of matches went on over the past week, mainly none ladder friendly matches.

.

The Legion hooked in an incredibly lucky win at 350 over Skorne, with 2 beasts dead by turn 3 and left in the open Lylyth was all set to be run down by a large hulking Skorne beast, who managed to miss his slam attack, and his follow up attack, leaving his own warcaster exposed and crunched by the remaining Legion beast. One more dot on the slam roll and it would have been the end of Lylyth.

.

Epic Lylyth went up against Epic Madrak in a three hour 6 turn throw down. The legion got the early upper hand hitting into the Troll deployment zone on the first turn and then using the Stridders and Gudrun to slow down the Troll advance enough so that on Turn 2 when Lylyth popped her feat that it was gunnery smack down time all around.  Lots of pain! Then Madrak responded and cleared up a mass of Legion forces, getting with 4 wounds of killing Lylyth too. It was still looking good for the Legion until their Gator minnions got tied down and beaten up by the Troll cavalry and the archers got mashed by an Axer on a killing spree, then with nothing left that could really damage Madrak, it became a battle of survival as Lylylth jumped around between surviving models to stay alive and keep knocking off Trolls. The battle was very even and probably could have been won by the Legion if I’d positioned the Crocs more centrally. Out on the wing (again) then did nothing (again)…

.

But the Legion got a bit of pride back beating Borka at 500 with Vayl, though again it was very lucky as Borka ballsed up his charge lane and ran into a model, leaving him horribly exposed, but looking safe with 4 Fury on him… the the Unforgiven said hi and did 33 points of damage, 16 after armour, transferred to a Frost Troll that died soon after as a Carnaeveron with Chiller on it went head to head with Borka within range of incite. no boosted attack or damage needed, 7 attacks saw all the Troll warbeasts dead and Borka failing a toughness check on the second time of asking.

.

And over in Warmachine Cygnar and Menoth fought out a viscious 500 which saw almost nothing left for either side by the end of the battle, I believe Cygnar won, but I was too busy getting killed at 750 at the time to notice who killed who in the end.

.

I feel some 1500 battles coming on soon! New models should arrive soon from the painters too, boosting Skorne, Khador, Legion and the Circle.

Wednesday Night Battle Update

Author: Games Master
07 23rd, 2008

Three battles went on this Wednesday (four if you count the friendly). The Epic battle was a 750 between the Trolls and Mercenaries.  Which was heading deep into turn 5 and the seadogs showing they could be as tough as any Troll. Kris had just declared that there was no way the game was going to be decided on a caster kill when Madrak threw a pot shot ax attack at Alexia, which hit ricocheted off her hit Ashylyn, The declaration of “15 to hit” was followed by the exclamation of “Ha just 17 to kill her”..followed by “shit!” Kris sure knows how to jinx a battle! Elsewhere Khador went top of the 350 ladder with a fast turn 3 kill over Cryx and a 500 saw Everblight remain undefeated as they faced off against Skorne with a Minion heavy army.

  • Mercs challenged Trolls at 750 and Lost
  • Khador challenged Cryx at 350 and won
  • Everblight challenged Skorne at 500 and won

The friendly match saw Cyrx and Everblight fight out a 350 featured 10 Shredders and a Harrier. In which a rules error and Wuffy forgetting his feat effects helped Everblightto victory.

Brief Battle Update

06 27th, 2008

A bunch of battles went on last week, here are the results as best I remember them.

  • 500 Khador Vlad (Chris) vs Trolls Grissel (Kobby) : Victory to Trolls Caster Kill
  • 350 Everblight Thagrosh(Chris) vs Pirates Shae (Russ ) : Victory to Everblight Caster Kill
  • 350 Cygnar Darius (Kris) vs 350 Cygnar Haley (Kobby) : Victory to Cygnar (Kris) Caster Kill
  • 350 Cygnar Darius (Kobby) vs 350 Pirates Bart (Russ ) : Victory to Cygnar  Caster Kill
  • 350 Everblight Thagrosh(Chris) vs Cygnar Haley (Kris) : Victory to Everblight Caster Kill

Thought I believe these battles might have used a mix of Mark 1 and Mark 2 Cygnar cards, we need to check and clear out all the old cards :) Worthy of note is that this was Kris’ first ladder win! I think we’ll see more Cygnar and less mercenaries from Kris for a while! At least till he gets that second Mule!

05 22nd, 2008

In a “lets see what we haven’t played very much or at all” battle Wuffy with Cryx and Lich Lord Terminus took on Chris with a Four Star Contract Magnus. Cryx fielded a unit light force featuring a Deathjack, Seether and Harrower as well as one pistol wraith and a Skarlock, and Chris fielded 2 * Renegade, a mangler, Eyriss, Seth, Bradigan, The Piper of Ord, 6 Kazyaki Assassins and Master Gunner..
.

The battle could be best described along the following lines “Mercs attack, mercs miss, Wuffy and spectators collapse in laughter” .. repeat. And so it went for the whole game with the mercs gradually getting ripped up until finally Eyriss managed to hit something (yes Eyriss missed lots).
.

Through to the final turn Cryx had lost just the pistol wraith and were running circles around the mercs, it was all too easy. So to wrap up Terminus charged Magnus, boosted the attack by way of a formality, and rolled 3 ones…. silence hit the table, Terminus missed again, and when he finally hit, he didn’t do enough to finish off Magnus. As the saying goes “He who laughs last laughs loudest”. first hit put Terminus on the floor and the rest of his focus Magnus powered into the defenceless undead warcaster.
