This was a friendly 500 point battle where Chris and Kris were trying out some of their new models. Terrain was sparse and played only a limited factor in the game. On the mercs side of the board, there was a valley between two hills in the middle with a stone wall at the end of the valley. Up the board and off to the mercs right flank, there were a collection of explosion craters. On Everblight’s side, there were some hills on their left flank and an outcropping of boulders in their middle.
Deployment: The Mercs won the dice roll and elected to deploy and move first. Bart and the two jacks along with Bradigan and Reinholdt deployed in the middle. The two Ogrun deployed on the right flank with the Press Gangers, Rhupert and the pirate solos went to the left flank.
Everblight deployed their Archers to their left flank to deal with the Ogrun. The Totem Hunter started just to the right of them. Lylyth, the Carnivean and the Forsaken deployed in the middle and all the lesser warbeasts went to protect the right flank.
Turn 1, Round 1: Bart had his jacks run up the valley towards the stone wall. The gobber, Bart, and Bradigan followed. Bart cast Batten Down the Hatches just in case Everblight could reach them with attacks this turn. The Ogrun on the right flank were wary of the ten possible arrows flying their way from the Blighted Archers so they shuffled a bit over to the right and stayed out of range. Rhupert sang the song Dirge of Mists to surround the Press Gangers and make them a bit harder to hit. The Press Gangers advanced a bit and the Pirate solos ran up to support them.
Turn 1, Round 2: The Blighted Archers moved their farthest and took some shots at Gudrun but he was just out of range. The Totem Hunter moved into the crater field and was dangerously close to the stone wall where Bart was but Kris didn’t notice. The lesser warbeasts on the right flank advanced and riled themselves up. The four Shredders were in front with the two Harriers just a bit behind them. The Carnivean moved up to behind a big boulder, riled itself and took cover. Lylyth advanced to behind it and shot her bow at a Press Ganger who advanced just a tad too far. The Press Ganger luckily failed its Toughness check and died because an Eruption of Spines would have followed and probably would have wiped out most of the unit. The Forsaken advanced and sucked up all the fury off of the Carnivean.
Turn 2, Round 1: Bart forgot to cast his best spell (Hot Shot) last turn so he needed to do it this turn. He gave one focus to the Mule so it could run and left five on himself for Broadsides and Hot Shot. The Buccaneer got none. The Mule activated first and ran over the wall. It ended up about 6″ from the Carnivean who was behind an impassable boulder. The Buccaneer advanced and went over the wall. Reinholdt stayed near Bart and walked up to the wall. Bart activated, moved up to the wall, cast Hot Shot on the Mule and then cast Broadsides. Bart and the Buccaneer weren’t in range to shot anything but the Mule was. Its Steam Lobber went off and missed. Luckily, it deviated just a bit and still caught the Carnivean, Lylyth and the Forsaken in it…. all for boosted damage. All three of them took minor wounds. Bradigan ran up to support the Mule. On the right flank, Gudrun yelled “Let’s get these spiny freaks!” and ran up to engage a couple of the Blighted Archers. Bokur followed but was a bit too slow to reach and engage anyone. On the left flank, the Press Gangers sized it up and figured they could pull off a successful charge with a bit of help from Rhupert. Hawk ran up first and ended about 4″ away from the Carnivean. She strutted her stuff and the urged to Press Gangers to rush up and impress her with their strength. Rockbottom waddled up and throw some coin at the Press Gangers and declared it was Pay Day if they kicked the crap out of the Everblight beasts. Rhupert then move up a bit and sang a March song to give the Press Gangers the extra 2″ of movement they needed to reach their target. The five Press Gangers then Charged… one to each Shredder and one on the Carnivean. Sufficiently pumped up, then hit like a ton of bricks. The Carnivean got whacked twice and lost its Spirit. Two Shredders got destroyed, one injured and the last one was unhurt. Doc ran up to give his support to the upcoming Toughness rolls.
Turn 2, Round 2: Lylyth sucked up as much fury from the beasts as she could and set herself to wiping out those annoying pirates. She activated and shot Hawk with Hellsinger. Hawk did not die so she was Witch Marked and Lylyth’s Eruption of Spines exploded all around Hawk. Hawk was hit and killed. Doc was also hit but he Toughed it out and ended up on the ground. The Press Ganger on the Carnivean Toughed it out as well but one on a Shredder died. Luckily for the Mercs, Lylyth’s spell doesn’t discriminate so two Shredders got hit as well. One died and the other was injured. With the Press Ganger on the Carnivean knocked down, it wasn’t engaged so it blasted its Dragon Breath at the Mule, damaging it marginally. The last remaining Shredder charged the Mule to tie up its dangerous ranged attack. One Harrier flew up to deal with the last remaining Press Gangers but the crowds were already running away. The other Harrier charged and killed the Knocked Down Doc. On Everblight’s left flank, seven Archers took aim at Bokur and easily hit him. However, their weak arrows only scratched himself. At the same time, the remaining three moved and engaged Gudrun. He was hit a couple of times and slightly wounded. The Forsaken looked around and assessed the situation.. but did nothing else. Chris then declared “Time to win the game” and the Totem Hunter then charged Bart and got three attacks in with its Flying Steel! Oh no. However, Bart was reasonable safe behind the cover provided by the stone wall and the Totem Hunter only managed to hit him once… for a mere four wounds.
Turn 3, Round 1: First things first. The Press Gangers ran for it (well, the two remaining ones). The one of the Carnivean stood up, tried to move away but the Carnivean knocked it back to the ground. The other one ran screaming past Rhupert. As well, the coward Reinholdt seeing Bart being attacked by the Totem Hunter, turned and ran for the hills. Bloody useless gobber! Bart upkept Hot Shot and gave one focus to the Mule and the Buccaneer and keep three for himself. Bloody Bradigan was nearby and his job was to get rid of that pesky Shredder on the Mule so the Mule would be freed up to shoot its Steam Lobber. Bradigan ran in screaming, crushed the Shredder and got carried away and swung at the Mule too! Bradigan’s fists can’t do much damage against Heavy Warjacks though. Now free to shoot, the Mule took aim at the Carnivean and hit it full in the chest. The Carnivean was now hurting badly. The blast also damaged Lylyth and killed the Press Ganger on the ground near the Carnivean. The Mercs left flank was more or less gone but things were going quite well in the middle. Rhupert advanced and attacked a Harrier but couldn’t hit it. Rockbottom as well tried to flame throw a Harrier but those things aren’t easy to hit. Bart needed to get that dangerous Totem Hunter off him. He went over the wall and attacked it. An easy hit and a nice bit of damage but it was still alive. Bart was reasonably sure that the Buccaneer could finish it off so Bart used his last focus to cast Broadsides again. Once again the Mule shot into the crowd of Carnivean, Lylyth and Forsaken but did minimal damage. The Buccaneer did indeed hit the Totem Hunter but only scratched it. The Totem Hunter remained alive with two wounds left. On the right flank, Bokur advanced but his Flying Steel let him down so he had to suffice with killing only two Archers. Gudrun as well took out one Archer.
Turn 3, Round 2: Things were not going well for Everblight. The Mule’s Hot Shotted two Steam Lobbers per turn was annihilating them. The Mule became the top priority this round. However, despite another Carnivean Dragon Breath and ranged attack from Lylyth, the Mule remained functional and none of its systems were broken. The two Harriers took care of Rhupert and Rockbottom so now the Mercs left flank was completely broken. The Blighted Archers took their attacks against the Ogrun but failed to kill either of them. Lastly, the Totem Hunter had his go at Bart again. Flying Steel resulted in only one attack so it seemed unlikely that it would win the day. It did hit but only delivered another four wounds to Bart.
Turn 4, Round 1: Bart upkept Hot Shot and gave his standard focus allotment – 1 to the Mule, 1 to the Buccaneer and 3 to himself. The Mule activated first, aimed and shot at the Carnivean. Two fours and a six! Critical Devastation! Bodies went flying. The Carnivean died when it hit the ground, as did the Forsaken. Lylyth ended up flying 6″ past the boulder to the other side… directly in front of Bart. Her near-broken body lay on the ground. Now was the time to end it all. The Buccaneer activated and boosted its hit on the Totem Hunter. It hit and killed the Totem Hunter. With a clear charge lane, Bart rushed up to the limp Lylyth and plunged Red Tide into her back. Bart’s blade bathed in her blighted blood.

Not much terrain, but those bloody impassable rocks totally messed up my movement when I got stuck behind them and a songle knocked down pirate that kept toughing it out. Certainly my plans didn’t go as well as expected and the Totem Hunter really ought to have done better on that beautiful charge…. never fear Everblight will be avenged!
